Another kind of terrorism

I saw this Photo journal on the BBC today about a Sierra Leone woman's struggle after rebels cut off her hand.

Lord, help the people that are still being affected by this horrible war. And may I hear your voice in what part I might play in that help.

Trailer parks and Truck stops

For the past 6 years I've lived on a ship and traveled by sea to many different nations. I'm in the US for holiday and this week I'm traveling by land, but not by car. In my parent's retirement years, their mode of transportation is an RV (recreational vehicle). My Mom has a difficult time flying so an RV works out better for their mission trips.

I've seen a lot traveling all over Europe and Africa with the ship and have adapted to many different cultures but I'm learning there's always more as I sit this morning in a RV park in Tallahassee, Florida. We are on our way to East Texas to Mercy Ship's International Operations Center. I'm going to visit friends, my parents are going to volunteer for 3 weeks.

On the road again....

Peaceful process

The elections in Liberia went well yesterday and now it's time to wait. The counting began at midnight last night in the capital, Monrovia, where there is no electricity, ballots were checked by battery powered lights.

"Turnout was huge with long queues of voters. Observers praised the conduct of and lack of violence on Tuesday."

Even though people had to wait in the heat for over five hours in some places, the process was peaceful.

"The head of the United Nations mission in Liberia, Alan Doss, said Liberians had "voted for peace".

"At all polling places I visited, I was struck by the patience, the determination and the friendliness displayed by all Liberians as they set about exercising this most precious right and responsibility," he said. With so many candidates, a second round is being predicted in four weeks time between the top two presidential candidates, unless someone secures more than 50% of the vote."

"The people of Liberia can be proud that they have successfully participated in this important step for the future of their country".

Good-bye Cape Town

The ship will remain in Cape Town until October 18th before sailing back to Liberia, but I'm taking my holiday and heading to the States.

I leave today and have a night in London. I will arrive in Florida on Thursday. I'm excited about seeing family and friends and spending the first Christmas in six years with them.

I've so enjoyed Cape Town and East London and the friends I've made here over the past three months. May God continue to have His hand on this country.
