Adult Literacy Update
When I returned to Liberia in mid January I jumped right back into my job of working with Adult Literacy. The team I'm working with from the ship was in week 2 of a 3 week training of 21 facilitators who were being trained to teach adult literacy to people in their community and beyond.
What our team does is train the facilitators and then help them open up classes. We opened up 3 classes in February and plan 6 more in the next 2 months. The class I'm assisting with is in an area called Joe's Bar (seriously) a little over an hours drive from the ship. I have taught in and modeled the class for 2 weeks and then starting next week the facilitators we trained will teach as I observe. After 2 weeks of observing I will do the same thing in a new class during the month of March.
I really enjoy the teaching and find life and joy in it. In some ways it is difficult to hand the class over to the facilitators but I'm so impressed with their abilities and the compassion they've displayed that I feel good about turning it over to them. It is their class and they are the ones who will remain after I'm long gone.
Please pray for the classes we opened in January. That the participants will be able to learn well and the facilitators will be able to sustain the class and continue to teach with compassion.
I've posted a few new photos from the training here.
